CIC LVD MAP

On the 1st May 2020, the Construction Industry Council published a Low Value Disputes Model Adjudication Procedure (CIC LVD MAP). This was replaced by the Second Edition Low Value Disputes Model Adjudication Procedure in May 2023.

UK Adjudicators are one of the ten Adjudicator Nominating Bodies offering this procedure. The ten Participating ANBs are:
  • Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR)
  • Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb)
  • Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
  • Construction Industry Council (CIC)
  • Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET)
  • Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
  • Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
  • UKANB Limited (UK Adjudicators)

The high cost and legalisation of construction adjudication in the UK has led to an access to justice crisis for small and medium enterprises across the construction sector.

In collaboration with the Construction Industry Council (CIC), UK Adjudicators have developed a low cost adjudication procedure to resolve disputes where the sum claimed is less than £100,000 and do not involve multiple or complex issues. The Low Value Dispute Module Adjudication Procedure [CIC LVD MAP] provides parties with an uncomplicated structure and programme to manage disputes, and is compliant with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (as amended).

The procedure has received the firm support of BEIS and the Construction Leadership Council and is being promoted widely to industry.

The LVD MAP Rules provide for a streamlined and cost-effective process, under which the Adjudicator is expected to limit the length, or time for submission of any statement, response or argument.

UK Adjudicators will nominate an adjudicator who is an expert in the subject matter in dispute and will use their expertise to decide the matter within 28 days.

To apply for the nomination of an adjudicator under this procedure, please complete and return the UKA – CIC LVD MAP nomination application form. There is no application fee of for this type of nomination.
